PP - Positive Psychology
Often referred to as the science of happiness, positive psychology is the scientific study of what makes people thrive and lead fulfilling lives. The activities in this domain help us build gratitude, optimism, self-compassion, kindness, empathy, and meaning—the essential skills that enable us to flourish.
M - Mindfulness
Mindfulness is the practice of focusing our attention on the present moment, rather than ruminating on the past or worrying about the future. Mindfulness is often developed through meditation, and has many benefits, from reducing stress and anxiety to improving focus and sleep.
CBT - Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
CBT is based on the idea that by changing how we think and what we do, we’re able to change how we feel. It focuses on shifting our interpretations and perspective, and changing our thinking and behaviors overall to get us closer to our goals and enhance our sense of control.
ACT - Acceptance & Commitment Therapy
ACT is an approach to well-being that focuses on living a value-based life. Instead of focusing on life’s challenges and trying to change them, ACT teaches us to accept those challenges and commit to our values by moving our actions and behaviors towards living a valued life.
DBT - Dialectical Behavioral Therapy
DBT focuses on balancing the dialectic (holding two seemingly opposing ideas at once) between acceptance and change. This is accomplished through skills training in 4 key domains: mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal skills training.
SFT - Solution-Focused Therapy
Solution-Focused Therapy is based on solutions, not problems. It’s future-oriented and goal-directed so that individuals can develop hope, feel empowered, and achieve what they want in the here-and-now without letting their problems get in the way.
IPT - Interpersonal Psychotherapy
Interpersonal therapy focuses on learning how to improve communication, addressing role dynamics and expectations in relationships, and developing social support networks to assure that people have what they need to handle challenges and grow.
BA - Behavioral Activation
Behavioral activation is based on behavior principles and the belief that individuals’ distress come about from change in contingencies (rewards and punishments) in their environment. By doing the things that bring us meaning and pleasure, we’re able to improve our lives.
ET - Exposure Therapy
Exposure therapy is based on behavior principles and the idea that the best way to deal with our fears is to confront them head on. It helps us feel empowered and in control. We stop avoiding what makes us fearful or anxious and learn that we can handle anything we set out to do.
Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT)
CFT focuses on the part of the brain’s emotion regulation system that manages distress and promotes bonding with others. This helps us decrease self-criticism and shame, and increase compassion towards ourselves and others.
